2017 Opening day

500,000 Visitors Expected during Calypso Theme Waterpark’s 8th Season

Calypso Opens its Doors Today and Announces Free Admission for Children Measuring Under One Meter In Celebration of Canada’s 150th Birthday

Limoges, June7th, 2017 – Today, Calypso Theme Waterpark, the largest theme waterpark in Canada located 20 minutes outside of Ottawa, opened its doors for an eighth season of operation.  To celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday and the 375th birthday of the City of Montréal, Calypso will grant free admission to children (accompanied by a parent) who measure under one meter in height.  This season, Calypso anticipates welcoming half a million visitors to enjoy the many attractions Calypso has to offer including: 35 heated waterslides, 100 water games, Canada’s largest wave pool and tallest water slide (the Summit Tower), two themed rivers and much more.  Expecting a record number of visitors this season, Calypso will promote the park with a national television advertising campaign in partnership with Prescott-Russell Tourism.

“Calypso is uniquely situated between Ottawa and Montreal just off Highway 417.  Given that these two great cities will be in full birthday celebrations this summer, we anticipate a great number of tourists will choose to cool off at our waterpark,” said Sylvain Lauzon, Senior Vice-President of Calypso since the park opened in 2010 and newly appointed Senior Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer of Calypso Valcartier Group, Canada’s largest waterpark operators.

“The decision to provide free admission to children measuring under one meter this summer demonstrates our commitment to making the park enjoyable for young families,” added Jérôme Drouin, Vice-President, New Product Development.  “We are currently working on other incentives focused on youngsters and young families which we will be introducing in 2018.”

In anticipation of the festivities taking place in Ottawa and Montreal this year, Calypso increased the number of its private cabanas last year including a VIP Zone.  Calypso is in the process of finalizing a major new development for the park and will be making an announcement later this season - so stay tuned!

Calypso’s characters are back and eager to welcome families to their magical water world.  The goddess of the waves, Calypso, has re-emerged from the depths of the sea.  She will be joined by ecology expert Wildman Jack forever hiding in the depths of the Kongo; by daredevil Sara Max who will be on the lookout for the next Summit Tower challenger; by Dr. Dunk while he continues his water experiments in the Turbo Lab; and by the famous Capitaine LaPlank who has returned from roaming the open seas for a well deserved rest at Pirate’s Aquaplay.

Without a doubt, this gem of a waterpark offers enjoyment for all:  from grandchildren, to parents, to teenagers alike.  Representing an investment of over $65 million since its opening, Calypso offers extreme waterslides, thrilling attractions and lots of surprises so it’s impossible for families, couples and friends not to be entertained.  Calypso has not forgotten the youngsters for they too will have fun in a safe environment at the Zoo Lagoon – a veritable water game paradise created just for them.  With numerous restaurants, a cafeteria, ice cream parlour, picnic area, souvenir boutique, VIP Zone, the Hawaiin Beach Bar, lounge chairs and everything else the park has to offer the decision to visit is easy - just come and enjoy!
