Calypso, Canada’s biggest waterpark, was honoured last night during the 2014 Ottawa Tourism Awards Gala, where it received the Innovation of the Year award for Kongo Expedition.
Kongo Expedition was launched in 2013 following a $7 million investment. This project includes a 400-meter theme river that leads guests into a 15 minute adventure through the African savanna. Swimming fans dive into a mysterious journey at the heart of Kongo Expedition’s majestic setting, where they discover abandoned beaches, flooded caves filled with surprises, huts, falls and torrents. Explorers need to watch out for the giant animated mammals, reptiles and sneaky primates lurking just around the bend. Bathers can also enjoy a new wooded area with 150 picnic tables and 3 new restaurants: a fast-food location, a submarine shop and a dairy bar. Kongo Expedition covers approximately 20,000 sq. m., nearly 4 times the size of Calypso Palace wave pool.
